Professional Japanese Oire Nomi chisel by Kanetomo is a typical general purpose carpentry chisel with hammer beating capability. The chisel is widely used for typical carpentry work, making joints, building furniture, doors, frames, etc.

The chisel has a high hardness of approximately 63HRC and is made from Shirogami high carbon tool steel better known as white paper steel. White steel - Shirogami in Japan is a high quality tool steel that is ideal for making chisels and knives. The chisel is laminated which means that the blade is made of two layers: a soft steel and a hard steel.
The chisel handle is made of red oak (akagashi) and finished with a metal ring.

The chisel has a blade width of: 6mm
Length of working part: 58mm
Total length of the chisel is 225mm

(Note: the pictures show a chisel with a width of 24mm)

The chisel is sharpened and ready to use. This chisel can be beaten with a hammer with a metal shank but remember to push the ring as far as possible towards the blade so that the hammer has contact with the end of the wooden handle of the chisel. We recommend oiling the end of the handle from time to time to prevent cracking of the wood and to prolong the life of the handle. The Japanese Oire Nomi chisels have a characteristic depression on the back which reduces the contact surface between the tool and the material.

Due to the short length of the blade this chisel is not designed for deep holes (not a socket chisel) and cannot be used as a lever.
