Set of 3 Classic Japanese Saws with Shogun Cover
A set of 3 woodworking saws manufactured in Japan by Shogun, a producer of professional hand saws. The set includes three of the most popular hand saws for wood:
-
Kataba 265mm - equivalent to the European panel saw, designed for deep cross, angled, and longitudinal cuts.
-
Dozuki 250mm - equivalent to the European dovetail saw, designed for shallow but precise cuts of joints and tenons.
-
Ryoba 240mm - a typical Japanese double-sided saw for cross and longitudinal cutting.
Kataba 265mm
The Japanese Kataba saw is equivalent to the European panel saw. This saw features universal teeth, making it ideal for cross, longitudinal, and angled cuts. It is designed for cutting wood and wood-based materials. The Kataba, with its straight handle, is perfect for deep cutting and for precise cutting of tenons and joints. Impulse-hardened teethprovide three times the lifespan and sharpness compared to traditional saws.

- Straight wooden handle wrapped in natural rattan (note: natural rattan may have natural discolorations and imperfections)
Ryoba 240mm
A double-sided panel saw. One blade is for cutting across, while the other is for cutting along the wood grain. This professional saw is intended for cutting wood and wood-based materials. The Ryoba, with its traditional straight handle, is excellent for deep cuts and for precise cutting of tenons and joints. Impulse-hardened teeth provide three times the lifespan and sharpness compared to traditional saws.

Dozuki 250mm
Equivalent to the European dovetail saw. This is a classic Japanese model of Dozuki with a full steel back for better rigidity and precision. The fine teeth and thin blade provide a very narrow kerf (0.38mm!), recommended wherever accuracy and clean, precise cuts are required. The metal back ensures excellent stability during cutting, reducing the risk of breaking or bending the blade, but it also limits the cutting depth. This Dozuki model is characterized by a cutting depth of up to 60mm and is particularly recommended for making joints, tenons, dovetails, and precise notches.

NOTE: Handles made of natural rattan may have discolorations and slight imperfections; this is a natural characteristic of rattan that does not affect the functionality of the saws.
As with all Japanese saws, cutting occurs only when pulling the saw towards oneself. This allows Japanese saws to have thinner, lighter, and smoother blades, resulting in faster cutting.
