Axminster polishing compounds, produced by a British company, are a range of products designed for polishing various surfaces. They are made from a carefully selected mix of abrasives and binders.
Each compound is labeled with Cut and Colour numbers to indicate its grit and polishing finish.
Cut (grit) - Indicates the level of abrasiveness. The higher the number, the coarser the compound (removes more material).
Colour (gloss, finish) - Indicates the level of shine left on the surface. The higher the number, the more polished the item will appear after use.
Example designation:
Cut Number: 1 - Colour: 9 - denotes an ultra-fine compound with a very high gloss finish ("high gloss") – ideal for jewelry finishing.
