Set of 3 Japanese Saws OSAKA with Cover

A set of 3 woodworking saws with a cover manufactured in Japan by Shogun, a producer of professional hand saws. This set includes three of the most popular hand saws for wood:

  • Kataba 265mm - equivalent to the European panel saw, designed for deep cross cuts.

  • Dozuki 240mm - equivalent to the European dovetail saw, designed for shallow but precise cuts.

  • Ryoba 240mm - a typical Japanese double-sided saw for both cross and longitudinal cutting.

Kataba 265mm
The Japanese Kataba saw is equivalent to the European panel saw. It features a universal tooth design, making it ideal for cross, longitudinal, and angled cuts. It is intended for cutting wood and wood-based materials. The Kataba, with its straight handle, is excellent for deep cutting and for precise cutting of tenons and joints. Impulse-hardened teeth provide three times the lifespan and sharpness compared to traditional saws.
Blade Specifications:

  • Length: 265mm
  • Thickness: 0.6mm
  • Kerf Width: 0.9mm
  • Tooth Spacing: 1.75mm
  • Number of Teeth: 16 per inch (16TPI)

Saw Features:

  • Universal blade (cutting: cross, longitudinal, and angled)
  • Medium-fine teeth
  • Impulse-hardened teeth
  • Replaceable blade (HOOK type - no tools required)
  • Straight wooden handle wrapped in natural rattan (note: natural rattan may have natural discolorations and imperfections)

Ryoba 240mm
A double-sided panel saw. One blade is for cross-cutting, and the other is for cutting along the grain of the wood. This professional saw is designed for cutting wood and wood-based materials. The Ryoba, with its traditional straight handle, is excellent for deep cuts and for precise cutting of tenons and joints. Impulse-hardened teeth provide three times the lifespan and sharpness compared to traditional saws.
Blade Specifications:

  • Length: 240mm
  • Thickness: 0.5mm; Height of Blade: 65 to 80mm
  • Kerf Width: 0.7mm
  • Tooth Spacing: 1.3 and 1.5mm
  • Total Length of Saw: 600mm

Saw Features:

  • Double-sided blade for cross and longitudinal cutting
  • Medium-fine teeth
  • Impulse-hardened teeth
  • Replaceable blade
  • Straight wooden handle wrapped in synthetic rattan

Dozuki 240mm
The equivalent of the European dovetail saw. This is a standard, very popular Dozuki model with a steel back for better rigidity and precision. The fine teeth and thin blade provide a very narrow kerf (0.45mm!), making it recommended wherever accuracy and clean cuts are required. The metal back guarantees excellent stability during cutting, reducing the risk of blade breakage or bending, but it also limits the cutting depth. An excellent saw for making shallow cuts, particularly recommended for creating joints, tenons, dovetails, and precise notches.

Blade Specifications:

  • Length: 240mm
  • Thickness: 0.3mm
  • Kerf Width: 0.45mm
  • Tooth Spacing: 1mm
  • Number of Teeth: 20 per inch (20TPI)

Saw Features:

  • Blade for precision cutting
  • Fine teeth
  • Reinforced steel back of the saw
  • Straight wooden handle wrapped in natural rattan (note: natural rattan may have natural discolorations and imperfections)
  • Replaceable blade
  • Polished finish

NOTE: Handles made of natural rattan may have discolorations and slight imperfections; this is a natural characteristic of rattan that does not affect the functionality of the saws.

As with all Japanese saws, cutting occurs only when pulling the saw toward oneself. This allows Japanese saws to have thinner, lighter, and smoother blades, resulting in faster cutting.
